Well - we survived the 10-hour train ride on the Soviet Train, which really wasn't so bad, and made it to Taraz. It's been a overwhelming day or so (I'm losing track of time)....but the big news is that we've been referred an adorable 15-month old baby boy!!! We met him yesterday for about an hour and spent two hours with him today so he's still pretty scared of us, but got much less scared once we pulled out the cookies! He's a little cookie monster...he's also a cuddler who likes to be held while you stand up so he can look around or put his cheek right next to yours! He's very serious and hasn't warmed up to us yet, but I guess that takes time...
We are still running all his medical information by our doctor to make sure we can accept the referral - it's a very nerve-wracking time because we feel like he is ours, but he's not yet and may not be if there are problems...so we should know in the next day or so...cross fingers for us!!!! We hope this is our baby.....
We are settled into a nice hotel, after two days in a small hotel further away from the center of town - so we're feeling more relaxed and have unpacked and all that good stuff - and this hotel has internet access- woo hoo!
Let;'s see...Kazakhstan is an interesting country - Taraz seems to be a very nice city - though without many traffic rules - that is a litle scary! The food is scary too - I'm staying away from all meat and sticking to bread and spaghetti...Patrick had some sort of "beef" today that he said was definitely not cow!!
That's it for now...we'll keep you all posted!!!

It is great to hear your news. I'm thinking about you all of the time and can't wait to find out if "cookie monster" is the one!
We love "cookie monsters" with fat little cheeks.
Patrick: Motherly advice: Don't eat anything you don't recognize & check to see what they do with the old donkeys before eating any more "beef"!! :)
Yay Beth!!!! I hope this cuddly cookie monster is YOUR cuddly cookie monster - he sounds so sweet! Best wishes to you and your husband - I hope all the medical info comes back just fine!

Praying for you lots! Cookie monster sounds cute and I hope if he's the one he can warm up to you and bond with you soon!
Sheep (mutton) are popular there, so maybe that's what he got instead of beef?
